A trip to the Netherlands can become a perfect alternative to many other tourists’ destinations. And, of course, the most visited place in the country is its capital – Amsterdam. The city offers the tourists a huge variety of the museums: Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum and others. Amsterdam is proud of its canals. Three main of them are the Lords Canal, the Emperor's Canal, and the Prince's Canal. That’s why Amsterdam is usually called “Venice of the North”.
It goes without saying that other cities of the Netherlands also have interesting attractions. Maastricht, one of the oldest Roman cities, is famous for its two squares the Vrijthof and the Markt, Utrecht suggests the visitors beautiful medieval churches; Rotterdam is known for its harbour, shopping and skyline. Seven outstanding significant historic places, inserted in the World Heritage List, are situated in the Netherlands.
